Ravangla- A Serene Retreat

Ravangla - A Serene Retreat

Ravangla can be reached from many places. If you are coming from NJP via Siliguri, the best option available is a hired car. You may book directly from NJP station or from Tenzing Norgay bus stand in Siliguri. Fares range from Rs2500 in off season to Rs3500 during season. Other options include taking a shared jeep. Do not fall for tour operators who include hotel booking along with car. The best option is to contact the car driver directly preferably hilly person. Niraj Rai (8016561656) with his maruti swift may be of help for small families.
Rabong market
If direct jeep is not available you may reach Jorethang or Singtam and then change. Another option is to take a bus that goes to Gangtok and get down at Singtam. When you book a car ensure he follows the road via Namchi. Ravangla can also be reached from Gangtok or Pelling and may be a place of choice while travelling between Darjeeling and Gangtok. Ravangla is a small place with many staying options. A very small market with well laid down shops. Most hotels are near the market itself. There are resorts like Babumosai resort,Cloud's End on the Ravangla Kewzing road. Hotel Queen's regency is on way to Maenam hill and offers good stay in seclusion. The entire place offers excellent view of the Kanchenjungha range throughout the day if weather permits.
Buddha Park

In the evening one may take a stroll upto the newly inaugurated Buddha Park. Taxis are available at very nominal rates. We got a jovial young guy Dwipen (m:9647874663) for a drop in his alto. This young man was so well behaved that we contacted him later for local sightseeing and drop to Pelling Nearby sight seeing includes an hour drive to the Ralang monastery or a bit further till Borong. Staying option is also available at Borong but ensure availability before proceeding.

On the other side is a short trip to the famous tea garden in Sikkim, The Temi Tea garden. This route covers the Rayong sunrise point and can be covered together. People having more time can include a trip to Namchi.
Temi Tea Garden
Maenam hill trek can be covered in a day and offers excellent and unobstructed view of the Kanchenjungha range. Enthusiasts can arrange a night stay there with a local guide for the best sunrise experience. If you have just one day to spare do nothing. Hang aroung the market place and have a hard or soft drink at the neat bar near Zero point. Ravangla will still haunt you in your memories.
